On a jet up in the sky that’s flying over Ireland
My wife is sitting next to me, her hand is in my hand
And I’m thinking God it’s been so long they’ll hardly know my name
And I know that there’ll be changes, still I’m hoping it’s the same

And the memories come flickering into view and like the dawn
They wander in and shed a light and suddenly they’re gone
I can see a scene where I have been, I hear a battered tune
I used to know so long ago and long ago was soon over the moon

Chorus:
I remember the day when I went far away to be seeking my fame and my fortune
Some days it was fun to be out in the sun, some days it was bloody well torture
Well the body and mind took the traveling well, but the heart it was here to stay
Now the sun is arising on the horizon over Dublin Bay.....Dublin Bay

Well the years went by so slow at first when everything was new
But soon it was the 17th since I had said adieu
I don’t know what I intended when I first went on my way
But I know I’m doing something very different today

And the plane is getting lower now we’ll soon be on the ground
What used to be a memory is now a sight and sound
And tonight til late we’ll celebrate, the whiskey and the beer
We’ll hug and kiss and reminisce the laughter and the tears, over the years

Chorus:
I remember the day when I went far away to be seeking my fame and my fortune
Some days it was fun to be out in the sun, some days it was bloody well torture
Well the body and mind took the travelling well, but the heart it was here to stay
Now the sun is arising on the horizon over Dublin Bay
(Repeat chorus)

Genre/Style: Irish Ballad

When you’re up all night
Cos you can’t sleep right
When your only dreams
Are the moonlight beams

Chorus:
Listen to your heart
Listen to your heart
When you go to start
Listen to your heart

When you’re on high wire
And your net’s on fire
When you can’t see straight
In a twist of fate
Chorus

When you’re on the run
When the peace won’t come
When the shadows bleed
On your every need
Chorus and on to Fade out

Genre/Style: Pop/Rock

I sailed into the black of night out from Dun Laoghaire Bay
I watched the Royal Marine Hotel lights fade away
My left hand holding a bag of clothes, in my right an old guitar
The drink I had to not feel bad didn’t get me very far

So goodbye Ireland, goodbye freedom, goodbye home
This old guitar mightn’t get me far but its everything I own
Goodbye to all the rainy seasons and goodbye Jane
I promise you when I get through oh they’ll all know my name

Got off the boat at Holyhead, got on the train to town
For all the lights and all the sights that London got me down
The fog was cold, Big Ben he told (tolled) the future’s like the past
If you don’t want to be in misery, you better leave here very fast

So goodbye Ireland, goodbye England, goodbye home
This old guitar mightn’t get me far but its everything I own
Goodbye to all the rainy seasons and goodbye Jane
I promise you when I get through, everybody’s gonna know my name

I went back home and waited for the visa to arrive
And yesterday the postman came and again I say goodbye
The party’s swinging, someone’s singing, I heard a neighbour say
(Hah) the music man without a plan is heading for America

So goodbye Ireland, goodbye freedom, goodbye home
This old guitar mightn’t get me far but its everything I own
Goodbye to all the rainy seasons and goodbye Jane
I promise you when I get through, everybody’s gonna know my name

Walking down streets of rain I don’t feel no pain
And once again I’m walking down streets of rain
I don’t feel no pain I don’t feel no pain
And once again I’m walking down streets of rain

I cannot remember why you used to make me cry
And though I try and try I can’t remember
Why you used to make me cry and though I try and try
I can’t remember why you used to make me cry

Could it be that I really know that it’s over
And could it be that I’m feeling fine
Could it be that now that it’s off my shoulder
I can get along with this life of mine
Or could it be I don’t give a damn
If I never get to see your lying eyes again
Could it be I’m happy just walking down streets of rain

Instrumental

I can see by the faraway look in your eye
That you couldn’t care less if I live or I die but that’s alright
And the white in the tan is the ring that you wore
And they tell me you can’t be in Love anymore but that’s alright
I’ve been waiting for such a long time
I see you every night
Now this night be the right or wrong time
And pure Hell or delight

I can see all the boys they’re all over the place
And they’re waiting for me just to fall on my face but that’s alright
And the Gambler says he can always refuse
If there’s nothing to win then there’s nothing to lose but that’s alright
I might lose my dignity but I might win the Big Prize
And here in the vicinity might reopen Paradise…Hey

Chorus
Won’t you just have this dance with me Girl tonight?
Won’t you just have this dance with me Girl tonight?
I’ll cut your chains and set you free Girl tonight
Won’t you just have this dance with me Girl tonight?

Instrumental

Won’t you just have this dance with me Girl tonight?
Won’t you just have this dance with me Girl tonight?
I’ve been waiting for such a long time

And pure Hell or delight…Hey

Chorus and Fade

Genre/Style: Pop

There’s a land that I love in a sea of blue
And itself is an island of green
And of all of the pictures I keep in my mind
It’s the one that’s my favourite scene
And I wander the Earth in pursuit of a dream
That may never materialize
For a son of Ireland I was born
And a Buachaill ón Éireann I’ll die

I’m a Cailín that’s wandering oceans wide
Many years I’ve been far away
Believing that far distant hills would be green
I have found all their colors are grey
And I’m tiptoeing through an arrangement of dreams
And I wish that to home I could fly
For a daughter of Ireland I was born
And an Irish Cailín I’ll die

So we live out our youths and reclining years
In a country long ways from home
And tonight with a clink we will drink to a land
We were destined to leave it to roam
And the hope of returning stays deep in our hearts
When the others have long passed us by
For sons and daughters of Ireland
We were born and so will we die
Ah sons and daughters of Ireland
We were born and so will we die
